Are Property Taxes Higher in Nc or Sc

We`ve moved some comments posted to another region here to ensure better continuity: From Rick: I`ve heard that NC and SC are pretty much the same for taxes. I live in Charlotte and I would NOT say you should stop talking to people in the state. However, Charlotte is not particularly able to cope with the traffic that has accumulated here. It can take almost an hour to drive just under 5 miles during peak hours. We are quite close to the beach or mountains without having time (usually) so the location is nice. I would add that after I retire, I want to cross the border to GET to SC, just for taxes. Cumberland County is located in eastern North Carolina and includes the city of Fayetteville. The average effective property tax rate of 1.12% in Cumberland County is considered the seventh highest rate in the state. On this basis, property taxes on a $150,000 home would be $1,680 per year. Only for protocol, the sales tax in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, SC is 9% and not 6%. North Myrtle Beach wants to raise its sales tax to 10%. Some alcoholic beverages purchased at restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area can be taxed up to 16.5%, so research the areas carefully before packing. Also note that you must provide proof of south Carolina residency before you can claim the $50,000 property tax deduction for your home that is 65 years of age or older.

If you are a non-resident, you will be taxed at 6% plus a higher mileage rate than a resident`s 4% and a lower mileage rate. For example, a friend of ours in North Myrtle Beach pays about $780/year in property tax for a 1B/1B apartment because he is not a resident. The same apartment for a resident under the age of 65 would be about $250 and for a resident of 65 and over, about $45. Reducing property taxes is beneficial, but groceries are expensive, so I can`t insist enough to do extensive research in every area and weigh all the pros and cons. You can get a sales tax table for each CITY or municipality in SC by visiting the South Carolina State website. Oh and car insurance in SC can be a little more than you`re used to paying, so consider that too. Doc, thank you very much for sharing information and your willingness to talk! We are so interested in the Northwest Carolina area. This is the place we usually go when we can. If we can move, we will look for rental properties. I`m sure there will be something to find. Because real estate in North Carolina is so rarely revalued, the values assessed can vary greatly from the actual value of homes, and it can be difficult to compare prices from one region to another. For this reason, it makes sense to look at effective tax rates.

An effective tax rate is the annual property tax, which is paid as a percentage of the total value of the home. The following table shows the average effective tax rate, median home value, and median annual tax payment for each North Carolina county. Waterfront real estate affordability is one of the best kept secrets. Having the first cup of coffee with the sun on the river is priceless. North Carolina will kill you with taxes! State tax, district tax, show tax if you choose the mountains, tourist tax. Gas tax, property tax, etc. Ron, this is one of your best posts! Thank you! We have been retired for 15 years now and your very personal perspective on finding the right place is refreshing. Not once have you mentioned costs, taxes, facilities and all the other things that you are clearly considering. But you show that you are looking for a place that suits you first. They indicate that you are renting for the long term so you can experiment and explore. They even describe the only possible way to deal with hurricanes (or other natural disasters) – understanding that « things » are happening, knowing your environment, and being aware that it takes time to recover.

Stress is certainly about how we perceive things, but your thoughts are especially relevant to research and the ability to enjoy. Good luck with your final decision! I was wondering if anyone could tell me the differences between auto insurance, license plates, and taxes for North and South Carolina. When it comes to their colleges, both states also have a good selection of students who want graduate school. North Carolina is home to some of the best places for education, such as Duke University and the University of North Carolina. In addition, students have many other options such as small private liberal arts colleges, medium-sized colleges, and large research universities. South Carolina, on the other hand, offers Clemson University and the University of South Carolina — two of the largest universities in the state. This state is also home to many small liberal arts colleges as well as a publicly funded military school, The Citadel. Migration to this part of nc still seems to come largely from the northeast. Personally, I see this as a « plus ». We NY`ers are used to a certain lifestyle and level of amenities.

I`d say this is due to a variety of things, including perhaps good press, the variety of activities the area has to offer, and generally the milder and overall nicer weather. The region certainly doesn`t just attract retirees. In this regard, it is not like in many parts of Florida. We chose a community of more than 55 « active adults » for a variety of reasons (e.g., B amount of amenities, activities, ease of meeting other people in similar circumstances (i.e. mainly retired), low house maintenance, etc. Our community at CP is currently unique in this area, but other similar communities are in the works. Overall, however, there are more young working-class families with children living and moving in this region and nearby towns and communities. For young people with families, this area needs to offer a quieter, simpler and more affordable lifestyle compared to the New York metropolitan area and Long Island.

In fact, I understand that there is a need for teachers here because the number of school-age children is increasing. The dollar in your apartment certainly goes much further, considering what you can buy here compared to Long Island. And EE taxes, while considered high (in Cary) for NC, are still about 25% of what mine were in Westbury, NY, and I have a nicer, newer, and bigger home here. This part of NC is actually a very nice part of the country. .
